Amanda Jozkowski, an associate professor at Towson University, pediatric occupational therapist, and mother of three young children residing in Eldersburg, has filed as a candidate for one of three non-partisan Board of Education seats up for election in 2022.

Her primary objective as a Board of Education member and candidate is to serve as a voice for all students and families. As Board of Education meetings and conversations about the schools have become increasingly polarized in the past year, Dr. Jozkowski is committed to maintaining an environment of respect and support so that thoughtful discussion and critical thinking can be used to make informed decisions.

Dr. Jozkowski has professional experience collaborating with families, educators, and policy-makers on a wide range of issues, from IEP planning to best practices in diversity, equity, and inclusion. Dr. Jozkowski advocates for practical solutions to support children and youth as they grow into citizens of the community, and will champion teachers and curricula that focus on rigorous academic preparation as well as life skills such as media literacy, money management, socio-emotional development, and problem-solving.

Dr. Jozkowski earned a combined Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from Towson University in 2008, and a Ph.D. in Occupational Science from the University of Southern California in 2014, after moving back to Maryland in 2011 to complete her dissertation study with the Hussman Center for Adults with Autism in Towson. Dr. Jozkowski has worked part-time as a pediatric occupational therapist in private practice since 2012, and as a full-time faculty member since 2015. Dr. Jozkowski believes that all students should be provided diverse opportunities to learn, equitable access to resources, and a supportive environment in which they feel a sense of belonging.

“I am eager to work together with students, educators, administrators, and the wider community to improve our schools. My background in therapeutics and education has provided me with a unique perspective that combines innovative thinking with compassion and high ethical standards that I will use to make sound decisions on behalf of the citizens of Carroll County.”

Dr. Jozkowski has been an active community member - participating, along with her family, in many events throughout the county, and volunteering with several organizations including Caring Carroll, Girl Scouts of Central Maryland, St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, and more recently the Freedom Elementary School PTA.
