A message from Amanda (11/9/22)

Supporters of my campaign and Team PTA –

There are many votes left to be counted, but at this time I am in 5th place, and the top 3 vote-getters will be seated on the Board. Regardless of the eventual outcome, I want to express my sincere and total gratitude to my friends and family for their support, encouragement, and persistence throughout this very long and often difficult process. Simply to be considered a compelling candidate with the likes of career educators Dorsey for Board of Education and Scanlan for Education has been a great honor.

I am incredibly proud of the campaign we ran – we remained positive and principled, and did not waver from our message or values. We also knew this would be an uphill battle, but I know for certain that we did absolutely everything we could to win this race.

But of course this was never about me – it has and always will be about our children, our educators, and our community. Through this campaign so many people have been brought together, united by our shared vision for our schools and our county. I cannot fully express how much the energy and enthusiasm of our volunteers has meant to me. To see the new friendships and connections made is incredibly heartening. I know how many people in our county - from all political persuasions - care deeply about our schools and our children’s futures. There are many other ways we can now use these connections to work together to support our educators. Once the results are final, we will do some reflection and reorganization, because there is always “more than one answer to these questions,” even if the path forward is more of a “crooked line” than a superhighway (thanks as always to The Indigo Girls for their wisdom).

I would especially like to thank all the educators and school system employees who came out to vote or to volunteer with us. I hope you can see how many people truly have your backs, even if the headlines may not reflect this. We do care, and we will not stop fighting with you because you are the key to our children’s success. We trust you and honor you for the good and tireless work you do every day.
